In 1863 Escanaba was organized as a town, incorporated as a village in 1866, and as a city in 1883. For the purpose of adding more territory, the city was reincorporated in 1891 and 1895. Escanaba's historical landscape is filled with fascinating and interesting characters and events including the pioneer days of the railroad, the harvesting and shipping of U. P. forest products, faith and family, celebrations, tragedy, and overcoming whatever obstacles were thrown at us.
